The Transformers, robots in disguise and basically my favorite thing ever. People keep telling me that some joker made 3 movies about them but every time I try to watch them I seem to get violently ill but I won’t go off on that tangent today. Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots and all around good guy had several catchphrases. The one I am concerned with today is what he would say whenever it was time for his Autobots to clock in and do some damage. “Autobots, transform and roll out!” That made me think about how I could apply that to my social strategy.

AUTOBOTS, TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT!

The coolest thing about the Transformers, I always thought, was their ability to adapt to any situation. Need to move, now I’m a car. Need to fight, now I’m a giant robot with a gun. There is really no reason we can not be the same way. Need to gain loyalty, you’re a brand ambassador. Need to handle negativity, now you’re a customer service specialist. In this job, I have developed many friendships with people in all facets of social media. They have different tasks, different strategies, and different goals. I, as a B2B social media marketer do not use or need the same tools as a B2C social media marketer and they do not use or need the same tools as a public figure in social media. Such was also the case with the Transformers. You had those built for speed, those built for power, those built for recon, those built for technical prowess. When I see so many people out there trying to tell you there is only one way to do your social media strategies, I have to laugh. While they are probably convinced they are correct, they simply aren’t. It’s a lesson I learn daily. Here I am, doing B2B social media for 3 separate sister companies. Oh well, Twitter really works for company A, so therefore it will work for B and C as well. Not so. Different companies, different strategies. Transform! *Cue awesome transform noise*

My point in all of this is not to tell you what your strategy should be or that Twitter is way better than Facebook but not as good as LinkedIn. My point is that you can’t be afraid to transform your strategy when it isn’t working for you. Almost every strategy works for someone but none work for everyone. Optimus Prime couldn’t fly. I know, later on he combined with other Autobots to gain flight but just plain old Optimus was flightless. Well a strategy of air combat would not have suited him well. I promise you though, you didn’t want to meet him on the ground if you could avoid it. I would encourage you to take a long look at your strategy. Is it moving you towards your goals? If not, than transform and roll out!
